Giving Back

When I founded Campfire Knits, I decided that I wanted to use some of the profits to help others. In choosing the following organizations, I wanted to keep my focus on nature-based groups, keeping true to my own company's roots. 5% or more of all proceeds are donated to charity. Every year, I make donations to a handful of organizations, including yearly contributions to two in particular:

Camp Sunshine

Founded in 1984 and located in Casco, Maine, Camp Sunshine provides retreats combining respite, recreation and support, while enabling hope and promoting joy, for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families through the various stages of a child’s illness.

Camp Sunshine's program is offered year-round and has the distinction of having been designed to serve the entire family in a retreat model. The program is free of charge to families and includes on-site medical and psychosocial support. Bereavement sessions are also offered for families who have experienced the death of a child from a supported illness.

The National Park Foundation

The National Park Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the United States National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. The Park Service cooperates with partners to extend the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation throughout this country and the world.

The National Park Foundation, the official charitable partner of the National Park Service, enriches America’s national parks and programs through the support of private citizens, park lovers, stewards of nature, history enthusiasts, and wilderness adventurers. Chartered by Congress in 1967, the Foundation grew out of a legacy of park protection that began over a century ago, when ordinary citizens took action to establish and protect our national parks.
